How WhoisFind Lookups Work
Sources, caching, refresh behavior, and limits of WhoisFind results.
WhoisFind combines registration and DNS signals to help explain a domain, but each signal answers a different question. Registration data concerns the registered name and its administrative state. DNS records describe how particular hostnames direct web, mail, and other services. Neither source alone establishes every fact about a domain.
Sources and timing
For generic top-level domains, RDAP is the current standardized registration-data service. Some endings may require a WHOIS fallback. DNS answers are requested through Cloudflare's DNS over HTTPS service. Redis caching reduces repeated upstream requests. Registration and DNS sources can carry different timestamps, and a cached result may lag a recent change. When a live refresh is offered, it refreshes WHOIS and DNS data only; it is not a global propagation scan.
An unavailable provider or ambiguous response should remain unknown. It must not be interpreted as an available domain. Likewise, NXDOMAIN is a DNS answer about a name, not a registration offer. An expiration date is not a guaranteed release date.
Responsible interpretation
Some raw registration responses may contain personal data. Avoid publishing or redistributing those fields without a valid reason. For purchase, transfer, or renewal decisions, confirm the live state with the responsible registrar. WhoisFind does not currently offer its lookup API to external customers. Our editorial policy explains how we document these limitations.
